Finding a Legitimate Home Based Business
Searching for a home based business? Finding that a lot of opportunities out there aren’t exactly “up to par” with what you would expect from a legitimate company? Since the explosion of the internet there have been many questionable business schemes online that make us seriously question the legitimacy and reliability of the source we’re dealing with. This article will help expose the sure signs of a potential waste of time thus making it easier for you to find a legitimate home based business opportunity online.
First things first, consider the source. Determine how reliable the website is that you’re looking at by checking simple things such as spelling, design, functionality, etc. It’s impossible to judge a book just by its cover but if any of those things are off then it’s pretty obvious you’re dealing with someone who is under-delivering or just not careful enough to generate quality. Legitimate home based businesses have well functioning, grammatically correct, spell checked websites with working links so don’t waste your time with anything less. Another way to determine the value of your source would be through a 3rd party. There are many 3rd parties that can tell you important things about the site you’re looking at such as how long it’s been running, how much traffic they receive, what visitors think of the site and so on. You can also research the company itself.
Next, look for reviews and testimonials. These can sometimes be biased so refer back to the previous paragraph and consider the source but legitimate home based business sites will be more than willing to share testimonials with you and other proof that they ARE actually genuine. Try to contact people who are already involved in the business. If you’re researching the business chances are you’re coming across contact info for people who are already involved. More importantly, try to find people who used to work the business. Find out why they stopped, how it compares to other attempted businesses and so on.
Also, check to see who is affiliated with the home based business. Has the company been featured in reputable magazines, newspapers and other publications? Do they have privileges with secure merchants and flexible payment options? If you can’t securely do business with a company that has a good reputation then chances are that you’re not dealing with a legitimate home based business.
Additionally, watch out for high start up costs! In starting a home based business you probably will incur some expenses but make sure they’re reasonable and justified. Paying too much upfront or thinking that you’ve found something for nothing is a huge mistake that many people make. There’s no such thing as free money but there’s also no reason to empty the bank account before you even start working. If there are upfront expenses consider these three things. What am I getting for my investment (tools, services, products, etc.)? Is this a reasonable price for what I’m getting? And most importantly, what will I have to do to see a return on my investment? Your “reasonable” upfront expense always has to be relative to what you’re getting for it and the compensation you plan on earning. For example, spending $1,000 for an opportunity that pays out on a small scale would make it almost impossible to see a positive return on investment. Legitimate home based businesses will actually make it possible to earn back your investment if there is one. Also, some may even give you a trial of services so that you can test them out first and then go on to invest only if you’re satisfied.
Next, keep an eye out for missing details and empty promises. Companies that want you to sign up for their “system” and then “watch the money start pouring in” are far from genuine. A legitimate home based business will actually show you their compensation plan, explain what needs to happen in order to receive payout, let you track commissions and more so make sure you have an understanding of what you’re getting into. Always keep taxes in mind too. Legitimate home based businesses provide taxable income and sometimes even appropriate tax documents. There’s nothing legitimate about untaxed or “under the table” income in the United States so make sure you report your income every year. Plus, not paying taxes defeats the whole purpose of finding a legitimate home based business any way, right?
Finding a legitimate home based business can take some effort but only for a very good reason – it’s worth it. Put in the time and research and be sure to protect yourself from anything that can be potentially detrimental and surely you will find a rewarding venture. Also, don’t forget to put in the work. Just because you’re not making money with something doesn’t mean it’s a scam. Find out what’s working for others, duplicate it and repeat… CONSISTENTLY! Only consistent work will result in consistent results.
